Rachael founded the South Jersey Storm Cheerleading Program in 1997, when she was coaching her younger sister and now business partner, Jenna Rastelli Varano. She studied Food Marketing at St. Joseph’s University, where she was also a member of the cheerleading team. She then went on to develop a cheer program that started out with just a couple of teams and has now evolved into a legacy. Based on her Family First Philosophy, she worked diligently to provide a place for all cheerleaders to become part of a special family that promotes physical fitness, discipline, leadership, social development and academic excellence through competitive cheerleading experiences.

Jenna Varano

Jenna first became involved with South Jersey Storm Cheerleading at the age of 12 when her oldest sister Rachael founded the program in 1996. After cheering in the program through high school she was awarded an athletic scholarship to cheer at The University of Maryland where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Family Studies. During that time, Jenna won 2 National Championships and a Partner Stunt National Championship. Upon graduation in 2008 she returned home to work by her sisters sides at Rastelli Kids Complex. Since then Jenna has coached several National Championship teams, competed and placed 3rd at the Cheerleading Worlds in the International Division, and transitioned into the Program Director of South Jersey Storm Cheerleading. Jenna is committed to providing a positive environment for athletes by giving them all the resources needed to excel.

Tara Carr

Tara Carr
Owner, Camp Director

Tara became the proud leader at Camp SAM in 2008, after spending 8 years as a Guidance Counselor in the New Jersey Public School System. Tara received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Women’s Studies from Princeton University, where she also competed on the Swimming & Diving Team. She then went on to pursue a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University. Tara has dedicated her professional life to improving the health and happiness of children in various settings including, social services, psychiatric hospitals, group homes, the public school system, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and more. Tara’s passions at camp include program development, staff training and camper engagement.

Monica Riela

Monica Riela
Camp Director

Monica began her journey at Camp SAM in 2007 as a counselor and has filled several administrative roles on her way to her current position as Co-Director. Her undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education from Rider University. Her sound guidance, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment guarantees the enduring traditions held so dear to all current and previous campers of Camp SAM. In addition to her year-round camp responsibilities, Monica is also a School Therapeutic Worker in the Philadelphia School System.
